Around the Web in 80 minutes

A few noteworthy items as I catch up with other blogs.

  • Fox News in Arizona suggested in a report (aired twice) that students are committing an “unintentional felony” by registering to vote where they attend school. Hat tip Ms. Musings who provides helpful additional materials on the subject.
  • Ross reminds us that this is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and he is featuring question boxes in the upper left corner of his blog all month with helpful information.
  • From The New York Daily News (hat tip: ionarts):

Mayor Bloomberg had little sympathy yesterday for New Yorkers who find the new $20 admission to the Museum of Modern Art a bit steep.
“Some things people can afford, some things people can’t,” said Bloomberg, whose estimated personal fortune is $4.9 billion.

  • Benigni is shooting a “comedy” about Iraq. (Hat tip: Nomad via Dove’s Eye View)

Atta boy, Mayor. Good thinking. Slap a $20 admission fee on the library, why doncha, and then say some things people can afford and some they can’t.

We’re doing a project this month at the DesertLight Journal that will challenge many long-held beliefs related to domestic violence. Take a look and maybe see things differently!
    Thanks!

Twenty dollars? Christ. I got a thing in the post yesterday suggesting I become a member for 75 bucks – and get free coat check and admission all year! I think I need to dig it out.

Doesn’t the MoMA thing seems just a bit silly? The Mayor is right, if you can’t afford it…don’t go. Twenty bucks won’t buy you two movie tickets in NY these days.

You can go for free on Fridays from 4-8 or you can pay less if you’re a student or you can go as much as you want is you become a member for $75 a year.

“Twenty bucks won’t buy you two movie tickets in NY these days.”
Funny, I went to a movie in NYC just last thursday evening and two tickets were exactly $20. But really, it’s too bad the museum isn’t seen as more of a public good that should be made avaliable to more of the public.

As I observe over at Fox seems to have become a subsidiary of the Onion, routinely running hoax stories, then changing them without acknowledgement, or saying they were meant as parodies.
